How To Draw: Emojis

19:19

Emojis are everywhere these days. Not only do you use them to enrich your text message, We use them to edit Instagramphotos, in our Snapchats and Youtubers all over the world are acting them out while their friends guess which one they are trying to impersonate. So why not bring this huge trend to paper? Here's a tutorial for drawing an emoji yourself, that goes beyond ;) or :D

Note: My new laptop and I have some struggles with saving the edited pictures so I'm sorry for the quality, I hope everything will be fixed in the next posts!

Essentials:
- (coloured)Pencils
- An Eraser
- A pair of compasses
- Paper
- Any device that can show you the emoji that you're drawing, to cheat from (optional)

Step 1: Use a pair of compasses to make a circle, and make (fold) a supporting line that goes exactly through the middle of your circle. This will help you because most of the yellow-faced emojis a symmetrical.

Step 2: Make the outlines. Mind that the tears make something like a 45 degrees angle, so the inner parts go vertically down.

Step 3: Outline the tears with blue.

Step 4: Fill them with a light shade of the same colour.

Step 5: Darken the circled part of the tear, also have some shadow effect coming from all the outlines. Erase the mid-pointy (are you still following me?) part when necessary.

Step 6: Outline all the other parts as well, try to add some shadow at the corners of the mouth.

Step 7: Colour in the other parts in the same way as you did the tears: darker outlines and lighter in the middle. Also mind that the forehead should be a little bit lighter.

Step 8: Do this for one more layer and you're done!

So that is how you draw an emoji! Easy, isn't it? With these basics and tactics you can practically draw any emoji you like, and of course practise is the key to it all.

Hope you enjoyed and comment your thoughts! You can even sent me your result @Formidabluh on twitter.
